- Delivering Christmas baskets to the needy in our own community has been an ongoing project of Social Ministry for many years. Candace Seaberg is our Christmas Basket Chair. Following is a note from Candace:
-
- Last year my husband Dan and I delivered a basket to a young woman in her 20’s, who was raising her 16 year old sister (because her mother was not a capable adult) and the young woman also had six year old handicapped child. She left her husband because he was abusing the child. We met her as she was arriving home from her nurse’s aid job. She was so grateful – she cried and told us that she didn’t know how she would have had a Christmas dinner without these gifts. We both left with huge hugs and tears running down our cheeks.
-
- Many of the volunteers received hugs and “God Bless You” upon delivering the gifts. We also received some letters of thanks from some of the families. One letter stood out: ‘Thank you for your kindness – thank you for seeing the things that we are trying to accomplish. We are here to make ourselves better and give our children the best chance to succeed in life. Thank you, thank you.’
-
- Last year 20 families received Christmas Baskets. 13 of these families were either participating in the Mounds View Family Learning Program or the Early Childhood Family Education Program. The remaining 7 families were CTK immigrant families and they were delivered groceries only.
